
This course has been designed with the aim of elevating the clinical skills of Pelvic Health Physiotherapists who choose to fit pessaries. It will deliver an interactive learning environment that fosters skills development, critical thinking and peer support. We aim to equip clinicians with the knowledge and expertise necessary to deliver exceptional care in Women's Health. Through practical labs, mentorship and further education we strive to enhance clinical competencies and promote best practice in the fitting of pessaries
Programme Objectives

To elevate the practice of pessary fitting amongst Pelvic Health Physiotherapists who have started their training in the fitting of pessaries.

To support Physiotherapists in clinical practice and who want to extend their clinical reasoning and practical skills in pessary fitting

To provide a learning experience in order to further Physiotherapists skills, adding to their Pessary Skills portfolio and working towards meeting the UK Pessary Guideline accreditation framework portfolio

Provide an opportunity to clinically reason pessaries beyond rings and cubes for more complex
The course will give you practical experience in the following areas

CUSCO speculum examination on live models with certification for your pessary portfolio certification

Side lying SIMS speculation examination practical on live models
-
POP-Q measurements practical on live models
-
Practical fitting of rings and cubes on live models
-
An opportunity to clinically reason the decision making and practical application of pessaries beyond rings and cubes
-
There will be an opportunity to perform peer to peer, practice on plastic Gynae model ( better name) and self fitting practice
Eligibility to become a delegate

It is expected that you have been working as a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist for more than 3 years
-
It is expected that you have completed a pessary course and started your learning on this pathway. This course is not aimed at beginners

8.30am Arrival/welcome/tea and coffee
9.00am Speculum teaching and examination by GTA's*
11.00am Break
11.15pm Practical session with rings and cubes using GTA Models
1.15pm Lunch
2 - 4pm Pessaries beyond rings and cubes
4.30pm Close
* GTA - Gynaecology Teaching Associates (GTAs) are laywomen with a special interest in medical education. They're trained by gynaecologists in the clinical technique, and have all been teaching (with regular CPD) for over two decades.
